JUNE 2016
Annie @ 23

I met you 7 years ago at the University Dorm.

You brought a keyboard with you which you play most nights inside the confines of your room. Though we were not roomies then, I know this because music is often heard coming from your room. Rm 32-A, correct? One time, as I passed your room, I heard you play. You left the door partially open. You had your keyboard out, your back was to the door. Since then I’ve always been fascinated at the timid girl who could play Yiruma pieces with ease.

Before our freshmen year was up, I found myself sharing a dorm room with you. This time, you brought a guitar. To my surprise, you could play the guitar and sing at the same time! There were nights when your singing would lull me to sleep. I was determined to have you perform at bars, because such talent should be exposed. And so, I first walked into a bar in 2009 with you. I offered to carry your guitar case so you won’t back out. We didn’t audition that night at Zigudu though it was a night of many firsts.

I am attaching here a photo of you last October 2015 playing alongside UDD. Here’s proof that you’ve made it! From the shy girl who only sang in her dorm room, here she is performing for a crowd.

If you still need someone to help you carry your gear, I will always volunteer. Keep fulfilling your dharma. Keep writing, keep playing. I am your #1 FAN. It has been a good 7 years with you, bords. To more years of friendship made all the more meaningful because of music and art and booze. Labyu. Happy Birthday.
